Eurocode 3 (EN 1993)

The European standard for steel structure design, applied with each country's National Annex.

What it is

Eurocode 3 (EN 1993) is part of the Eurocode suite for steel structure design, used across the EU and beyond. Each country sets specific values through a National Annex (NA) — e.g. the partial factors γM0 and γM1.

Design method

Limit-state design separating Ultimate (ULS) and Serviceability (SLS) limit states, with partial safety factors on both loads and material resistance.

Key checks

  • Cross-section classification (Class 1–4) for local buckling
  • Member resistance — buckling curves and lateral-torsional buckling (LTB)
  • Partial factors γM0 (cross-sections) and γM1 (stability) per the National Annex
