Guide
NBR 8800
The Brazilian standard for steel and steel-concrete composite building structures (ABNT).
What it is
ABNT NBR 8800, “Design of steel and steel-concrete composite building structures”, is Brazil's primary steel design standard, published by ABNT (the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards).
Design method
Limit-state design (método dos estados-limites) based on the LRFD philosophy: design resistance (with resistance factors) must be no less than the factored load effects — closely aligned with AISC LRFD.
Key checks
- Tension — yielding and rupture
- Compression — flexural buckling and slenderness
- Flexure — yielding and lateral-torsional buckling (FLT), shear and combined forces
Kaokla tools using this standard
⚠ Educational overview, not case-specific design advice — always reference the full standard and have a licensed engineer certify the design before construction.
